Biography
Dr. Azza Ali is the Rheumatology Fellowship Program Director at Wayne State University/Detroit Medical Center, a role she assumed in May 2024. Board certified in Rheumatology, Dr. Ali has extensive expertise in the field and is dedicated to medical education and training the next generation of rheumatologists.
She completed her residency at Detroit Medical Center and her Rheumatology fellowship at Henry Ford Hospital/ Detroit Medical Center. As a clinician with a passion for teaching, Dr. Ali focuses on providing comprehensive training in rheumatology including rheumatology procedures to fellows. She is also actively involved in Internal medicine residents’ teaching and medical student education.
Currently, Dr. Ali practices primarily at the John D. Dingell VA Medical Center, where fellows spend half of their training with her. She is the Rheumatology section Chief.
She is a member of several committees at the VA, including serving as the chair of the Medical Record Review Committee.
Dr. Ali is an active member of several professional organizations, including the American College of Rheumatology, Michigan Rheumatism Society and SPARTAN (Spondyloarthritis Research and Treatment Network) as her interests extend to all rheumatological diseases, ensuring a broad and inclusive approach to patient care and education.
In addition to her educational roles, Dr. Ali has pioneered the establishment of an interdisciplinary clinic, in collaboration with Pulmonology, that focuses on interstitial lung disease (ILD). She has also initiated a procedure clinic, enhancing the practical training opportunities for her fellows.
Outside of her professional life, Dr. Ali enjoys music, live theater and shows, and staying physically active.
